Liz & Josh.

Starting PFK has been the greatest joy of our lives. We think it is a shame that people can go their whole lives and not know the love of cats. Our hope is to change that for as many people as possible.

It all began in Pensacola, FL when we moved into the area in 2020 for Josh’s job. Liz joined an online group to learn about the area. Shortly thereafter, she came across a post to help this tiny kitten that was abandoned alone under a porch. The request was to foster for a few days until a long-term foster could return from vacation. After bringing the kitten home, we instantly fell in love and a few days turned into forever.

Mochi.

When we brought this little bobtailed kitten, who weighed less than a pound, into our home, he went from hiding behind the pillows on the couch to exploring and playing in just a few hours. It was very clear that he felt safe. His soft kitten purrs brought the biggest smiles to our faces so we decided he needed a name. He was so cute and sweet that we named him after our favorite type of ice cream, Mochi.

Baby Mochi is one of our fondest memories. It is a time that we will always cherish because we were unexpectedly blessed with the most wonderful kitten who inspired us to get another kitten.

Mochi & Olive.

Mochi was full of life and energy. After some research on solo kittens, we decided to find Mochi and friend to play with while we were working. We found ourselves in the multiple kitten rooms at the Escambia County Animal Shelter. We had one criteria - sweet, loving personality. After spending time with every kitten and one kept coming to mind, Midnight May, who we changed to Olive.

When Mochi saw Olive for the first time, he was in heaven. We instantly knew we made the right choice because the two were inseparable, even to this day. We learned early on that cats are social creatures and thrive when they have other feline companions.

Flower Pot Kittens.

We had just moved into a new neighborhood and saw there was a large feral cat population being perpetuated by our new neighbor. In researching TNR programs, Liz came across a post regarding a mom cat that had given birth to a litter of kittens in a flower pot on her front porch. The only place with capacity to take them was SOCKS in Fort Walton Beach, which was 2 hours away. We wanted to help and offered to drive them.

After the mom and kittens were examined, SOCKS said they needed a foster, so we offered to help even though we had never fostered before. It was through this fostering experience that the idea for PFK was born.

PFK.

Today we provide foster care, low cost spay/neuter, and TNR services for the cats and kittens of Northwest Florida. Our team of a dozen fosters help intake, care for, and socialize cats and kittens to prepare them for adoption. Since March of 2022, we have helped over 500 cats and kittens through our various services.

Our continued growth and success is directly attributed to our dedicated and talented team of volunteers, our growing list of strategic business partners, and our social media followers who like, share, and donate. Without them we would still be just two people trying to save one cat at a time.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us.

Become the change.

Big changes begin with small, seemingly unnoticeable actions. One person inspires another to act until an entire community of people are inspired and take great action.

For us, we are moved to help cats and the people who care for them. If that inspires you, please consider joining us and our amazing team of volunteers!
